Te Araroa is a small township perched alongside the sea on the northern tip of the remote and rugged East Cape of the North Island of New Zealand. This is the home of the unique Tairawhiti East Cape Manuka Oil.
The region is rich in natural beauty with bush covered hills and fresh clean flowing streams. The beaches and rocky coves abound with fish and shellfish.
The area is blessed with ample rainfall and long hot summers.
The population of the district is around 1200 most of whom are of “Maori” descent, the indigenous people of New Zealand. The Maori culture is strong.
Many in the area are involved in farming, with many of the farmers also now suppliers of Manuka brush.
As the most eastern township in New Zealand and thus the world, the area is coming further under the spotlight with the coming of the new millenium and the celebrations at East Cape and the East Cape Mountain, Mt. Hikurangi.
